wendy, thank you for your invite to your forum. Our horse group is having an Equine Nutritionist give us a clinic mid January on equine nutrition. Although I personaly dont have any issues with my geldings, I am always listening with an open mind to learn new ideas. We are located in Sealy Texas, just west of Houston. Just starting to look around your website. Looks great. Keep up your great work and sharing your experiences with other equestrians.
Thank you for your post. Nutrition is really important for horses, especially those who compete. I hope your clinic goes well. Let us know if you hear something that you feel should be shared. You can post it right here on this thread. Thanks! Wendy
I have been feeding nothing but Total Equine to my competition horses and the ranch horse we use here at the ranch. It is without a doubt the best feed I have ever used along with good grass hay. Total Equine and alfalfa really work good together also.
I have checked up on Total Equine. From what I've read, it is a very good feed. However, it does not appear to be available in the Northeast area of the US. (If I am wrong, please let me know!) Pennsylvania based, I feed Omegatin -by Blue Seal. It is expensive, but in addition to being a healthy feed for horses, I find that they focus much better during training. Thank you, ranch rodeo, for your good information.
It probably won't be long before Total Equine is available, as it is really taking off. I have been on it for 3 yrs now and watched one horse grow a complete normal hoff in 4 1/2 months and I am showing him. I also have not wormed this horse in all that time. If I was traing outside horses, that is the feed of choice for me. The reason I got on it is because there are no highs and lows. It is the same horse everyday. I know you know what I mean here. They are just level in their minds. Colic is almost non-existant. Some hove gotten up that were down with EPM. The list goes on and on. I have one that has been diagnosed with Pedal Osteitis. Every time we have reset his shoes, I have to bute him just so he can stand and eat and then fill his hooves with Equi-build. I let him rest since the middle of Nov. and reset him and it was short on saturday. By Monday, I should have given him bute, but he has not taken a sore step and no Equi-build. We are going to re x-ray his coffin bones soon. My vet was blown away. He is running and bucking, being very normal in play..
Thank you for your information on Total Equine, Jim. Sounds like a great product. I will watch for its availability in this area. I understand what you mean about the highs and lows with horses and feed. That is why I like the Omegatin so much. I can sense the horses ability to focus more and be consistent in their calm acceptance of new training. They really look good, too. The paragraph you wrote about your horses and their hoofs is very interesting, and so great to hear. Let me know how your horse is doing. Thanks again! Wendy
